The National Geography Committee represents Belgian scientists conducting research in the geographical sciences. The Committee is sponsored by RASAB (the Royal Academies of Sciences and the Arts of Belgium). RASAB provides financial and logistical support to the national committees, both for their day-to-day activities and for the organisation of scientific events at the Palais des Académies.
The National Committee represents Belgium within the International Geographical Union. IGU Committees shall promote the objectives of the Union in their respective countries with specific reference to international aspects. They shall disseminate information from the Executive Committee to geographers in their country and report every four years to the Executive Committee on their activities and the state of geography in their country. IGU Committees appoint delegates to represent them at meetings of the Union. Each IGU Committee, alone or jointly with one or more other IGU Committees, has the right to submit to the Union, for discussion, matters which fall within the scope of the Union.
